Happiness

Where is my Happiness?

Does your happiness play hide and seek with you? Are you tired of feeling tired? Is finding motivation the hardest task of the day? Then read on!

I have been chasing happiness for a long time. I remember a few years ago, I was at the bottom of a deep dark sadness hole, and I wrote on a sticky note, “Value your Happiness.” That simple quote helped me climb out of the sadness hole at that time. But what is happiness and why didn’t I value it?

Happiness is a state of being. Happiness does not mean lack of sadness, or lack of grief. It simply means a healthy mindset where you understand yourself enough that you live in harmony with your own being and the world around you. Happiness is allowing yourself to feel sad, to feel angry, to feel lonely. These emotions are crucial for our survival. The important thing is, you cannot and should not stay in those emotions for prolonged periods of time, drowning in rage or in tears.

So, what do you do when you experience prolonged periods of sadness? You reach for help. Help is always provided to those who seek it. Here is a list of things that I believe can help return you to the healthy state of happiness!

1. Therapy

Look for a therapist and seek their help. There are many professionals ready to help us with our struggles. There are therapists, counselors, psychologists, and so many more knowledgeable people out there. Therapy is one of the best steps to take when feeling hopeless, sad, and emotionally unwell. It is also one of the bravest and most noble of choices. Seriously, why do we feel so comfortable going to a physician when we have a broken bone, a headache, or a flu, but it is so difficult to see a therapist when we feel emotionally unwell? Asking for help is the opposite of weakness; it means that you value yourself and your loved ones and that you are a responsible and healthy human being who knows what is best for them.

2. Journal

Write down your thoughts and emotions freely. Take a notebook, a piece of paper, and write down your thoughts as if you are venting to a trusted friend. Something magical happens when we write down our thoughts. You feel heard, you feel lighter, and less irritated than you did before writing them down.

3. Meditate Regularly

It is said that people who meditate regularly make less mistakes in their lives. Meditate for your happiness. Even five minutes of meditating can be so beneficial for our mind, body, and soul. While you meditate, focus on your chakras. I’m sure most of us have already heard a thing or two about chakras, you know those energy centers in our body that spin. A healthy chakra is balanced; it is not blocked and it is not overactive. However, just like our clothing get dirty as we wear them, sometimes our chakras get out of balance. It is perfectly normal. What you need to do is to bring it back to balance. Look for a future blog post dedicated to chakras and how to balance them!
