Harmonious Podcast Episode 8: Heart Chakra - Hawthorn & Green Aventurine

Dr. Michael Tierra, in his book “Planetary Herbology” mentions: “Healing herbs are everywhere. A hike in the country or a brief stroll through the garden may reveal a pharmacopoeia of medicines for body, mind and spirit. If we have some knowledge of the herbal arts, our finds may then inspire us to envision some of their countless healing possibilities. For herbalism is a religion of nature, representing a balance of head and heart, that relies more on artful intuition than precise scientific reasoning.”

Hello beloved ones! This is Meline, and you are listening to episode 8 of Harmonious, where we explore the synergy of Crystals and Herbs. Today we will explore the herb Hawthorn and the crystal Green Aventurine, and how these beautiful allies can benefit our heart chakra and our overall wellness.

But before we move on, I need to emphasize that everything you learn in this podcast is for educational purposes only. Please do not start or discontinue any treatment or medication based on what you learn in this podcast. It is essential that you consult a medical doctor before initiating or discontinuing or changing any medications or treatments for your physical, emotional, or mental health. And please make sure that you are not allergic to any of the herbs that you wish to experiment with.

Today, we will be exploring the Heart chakra from our chakra series. If you haven’t listened to the first three chakra episodes, make sure you give them a listen and maybe you will find some treasures there, or send me an email if you have any questions, comments, and ideas and I’ll be glad to include them in the future episodes.

So, in the traditional Hindu and yogic systems, the heart chakra is known as Anahata, which means "unhurt" or "infinite" in Sanskrit. It is considered the fourth primary chakra and is located in the center of the chest at the level of the heart, behind the sternum.

The heart chakra serves as a bridge between the lower three chakras, which are associated with more earthly and physical aspects of our being, and the higher three chakras, which are connected to our spiritual and transcendent nature. It is often regarded as the center of love, compassion, empathy, and connection.

The color associated with the heart chakra is green. The element of the Anahata chakra is air. It governs our heart, lungs, spine, ribs, thymus, and our lymph nodes. When balanced, the heart chakra, or the anahata chakra supports unconditional self-love, love for others, respect, compassion, and forgiveness. It is impossible to be hurt or to hurt others when our heart chakra is balanced and healthy.

Imbalances of the heart chakra may leave us feeling disconnected from ourselves and others. It can lead to feelings of grief, sorrow, depression, and loneliness.

An overactive heart chakra may lead to codependent tendencies, and situations when we consider the needs of others before our own. We may unwantedly suffocate our loved ones with being overly affectionate or overprotective.

An underactive heart chakra may result in hardships in our romantic life, or it may make it extremely difficult for us to forgive others. We may experience love on the surface level and find it difficult to connect with our own self and to others on a deeper emotional level.

Now, if you find yourself experiencing any of the above, please don’t blame yourself for having imbalances in your heart chakra. Our chakras get out of balance almost on a daily basis. It is like dirty dishes that need to be washed and cleaned every day, or laundry that needs to be done every few days or even daily. Thankfully, there are many ways to balance our chakras. By learning and practicing these methods more regularly, our chakras will remain balanced for a longer period of time and won’t get out of balance easily. It is a part of our spiritual hygiene and our mind, body, and spirit wellness.

The heart chakra can be balanced through green foods such as spinach, kale, broccoli, and celery; herbs such as dandelion leaves, basil, thyme, cilantro, rosemary, sage, hawthorn berries, lavender, and green tea.

Exercise, yoga, tai chi, and especially using heart opening poses and breathing techniques are more ways of balancing our heart chakra.

Crystals that are usually used for balancing and healing the heart chakra are usually green and pink color crystals such as rose quartz, chrysoprase, green aventurine, malachite, lepidolite, pink tourmaline, and more. However, when it comes to energy healing modalities such as crystals, a lot of times we need to listen to our intuition and gut feeling. Remember that the information provided are simply guidelines and if your intuition tells you to use a crystal which is not green or pink, you are not wrong, and it is better to respect your intuition and go for it.

Another option for balancing the heart chakra is asking Archangel Raphael to help us heal our heart. This master healer, Archangel Raphael is known for his ability to heal our mind, body, and spirit in multiple levels. Archangel Raphael’s energy vibrates in the frequency of a beautiful healing green light. If you decide to work with Archangel Raphael, you may repeat the following prayer: “Beloved Archangel Raphael, I call upon you now to ask for healing. Please shine your magnificent green light of love and healing upon me. Guide me to connect with the unconditional love of the Source of all light. Please take away sadness, take away pain. Hold me in your healing wings and help me become whole again.”

Alright, now let’s explore the lovely herb, Hawthorn, which is a well-known universal remedy for the heart. Hawthorn berries are the fruit of the hawthorn tree. It is native to Europe, North America, and Asia. These small berries are typically red or dark red and have a tart, slightly sweet flavor.

The scientific name for Hawthorn is Crataegus, and it is also known by its folk names such as Bread and Cheese tree, Hagthorn, Mayblossom, and May bush. Its gender is masculine while it is strongly associated with motherly love, protection, and fertility; it is associated with the planet Mars, and its element is therefore, fire.

There is a bit of folklore that Hawthorn trees were believed to be witches who transformed themselves into trees. In addition, Hawthorn was used to decorate May poles. Hawthorn trees were also believed to protect the house against lightning.

Hawthorn berries have been traditionally used to heal the heart, spleen, stomach, and liver. Hawthorn berries are extremely effective for treating heart problems, high blood pressure, and regulating cholesterol.

Now, let’s delve into the crystalline world of healing stones and meet the beautiful Green Aventurine. It is a beloved crystal of mine. Green aventurine is a type of quartz crystal and often has sparkly inclusions. It is a variety of mineral quartz, and its green hue is typically due to the presence of fuchsite or mica inclusions.

Green Aventurine provides comfort and healing to the heart. It can harmonize and balance energies, protecting the heart from negative influences. It is believed to promote emotional stability, reduce stress, and bring about a sense of inner peace. Green Aventurine can also help us open our hearts to love and joy, allowing us to experience more meaningful relationships with others.

Green Aventurine is a powerful healing crystal that can bring balance and harmony back into our lives. It is especially beneficial in situations of chaos or malignant conditions, as it helps to settle nausea and dissolve negative emotions. It is believed to be able to bring clarity of thought and restore equilibrium in difficult times. Green Aventurine also has the ability to attract luck, prosperity, and abundance, making it an excellent choice for those looking for a bit of extra good luck in their lives.

So, how can we integrate and combine the usage of Hawthorn and green Aventurine for even more benefits for the heart which result from the synergy of these two healing beings?

- One of the best ways to connect with the energetic benefits of a plant or a tree is to stand underneath the tree, feel it’s presence, and wrap your arms around the tree trunk and gently hug the tree. This is one of the most healing experiences I have ever experienced. So if you see a Hawthorn tree, or maybe go on a hike with the intention of finding a hawthorn tree, and when you find it, hug it. You can talk to the tree and connect with it though your mind, body, and spirit. One option is to leave an offering of a small piece of Green Aventurine crystal under the tree.

- Another option is to make hawthorn berries infused honey. You can use dried hawthorn berries and add half a cup of berries to a cup of honey and leave it for a few weeks or months. You can add this honey to your tea or enjoy it with baked delights. If you wish to incorporate the energies of the heart healing green aventurine, feel free to drop a clean piece of green aventurine into the honey together with the berries.

- One of my favorite ways is to brew a cup of hawthorn berry tea. You can make this tea with premade hawthorn tea packages, or by adding boiling water over the dried or fresh hawthorn berries. Then, sit in meditation while holding a green aventurine crystal, or wear jewelry made with green aventurine. Visualize a bright and beautiful green light in the center of your chest. Imagine this green light pulsating and becoming bigger and bigger until your entire body is enveloped in this calming, healing, and peaceful green light. You may repeat the following affirmations if you choose to do so: I am a source of unconditional love. I love myself unconditionally. It is easy for me to find love wherever I go. I feel good when I forgive myself and others. I deserve to love and to be loved by others.

- If you have been following my episodes you already know how much I love making crystal grids! This is a great option to incorporate the synergy of Hawthorn berries and Green Aventurine in a beautiful sacred geometry to speak directly to the Universe and to cultivate the heart opening and heart healing properties of them both. Let your intuition guide you and allow your creativity to go wild and make a crystal grid using dried Hawthorn berries and Green Aventurine crystals. Leave your crystal grid undisturbed for a few days if possible. You may write down your intentions of balancing and healing your heart chakra and place this note under your crystal grid.
