But before we move on, I need to mention that everything you learn in this podcast is for educational purposes only. Please do not start or discontinue any treatment or medication based on what you learn in this podcast. It is essential that you consult a medical doctor before initiating or discontinuing or changing any medications or treatments for your physical, emotional, or mental health. And please make sure that you are not allergic to any of the herbs that you wish to experiment with.

Yarrow, scientifically known as Achillea millefolium, is a prominent member of the flowering plant family Asteraceae. It is known by many folk names including yarrow, old man's pepper, devil's nettle, sanguinary, milfoil, soldier's woundwort, and thousand seal.
As a perennial plant, Achillea millefolium can reach a height of approximately one meter and spreads through rhizomes. Its feathery leaves, evenly distributed along the stem, spiral gracefully around it and measure 5–20 centimeters (2–8 inches) in length.
The charming flowers of yarrow bloom in elegant shades ranging from white to pink, emanating a distinctive sweet scent.
In the well-known legend, Achilles, the mighty warrior, was believed to be made invulnerable by his mother, who dipped him into the river Styx, holding him by his heel. As a seemingly invincible fighter, Achilles used yarrow to treat the wounds of his fellow soldiers during numerous battles. Ironically, he met his tragic end when he suffered a wound to his vulnerable heel, the only unprotected part of his body.
It is said that Achilles acquired his knowledge of yarrow's healing properties through the guidance of his mentor, Chiron. Chiron is often referred to as "the wounded healer," and this association has bestowed a special connection upon yarrow with this archetype, making it a valuable ally for those who are experiencing emotional or soulful wounds.

In this context, yarrow symbolizes the ability to heal and provide support for individuals going through internal struggles and emotional pain, much like the wounded healer archetype represented by Chiron. Just as Achilles, despite his invincibility, found vulnerability in his heel, yarrow serves as a reminder that even the strongest individuals may have their weaknesses and can benefit from healing and assistance in times of distress.
Throughout history, Achillea millefolium has played a significant role in traditional medicine, largely due to its astringent properties. Native American nations extensively relied on yarrow and its North American varieties for various medicinal purposes. They considered it a "life medicine" and used it to ease toothaches by chewing the plant, while infusions were employed for treating earaches.
Yarrow's healing properties extended to treating cuts and abrasions, relieving earaches and throat infections, and even serving as an eyewash. Common yarrow was also utilized to reduce pain or fever and promote restful sleep.
During the Middle Ages, yarrow was a key ingredient in an herbal mixture called gruit, used to flavor beer. Even today, certain regions continue to use yarrow's flowers and leaves in the production of specific liquors and bitters, highlighting its historical and ongoing significance in the culinary and beverage industry.
Beyond its medical and culinary value, yarrow (Achillea millefolium) is highly regarded as a companion plant in gardening and agriculture. Its ability to attract beneficial insects while repelling pests makes it a valuable addition. For example, yarrow attracts ladybugs which are natural predators of common garden pests. Moreover, the plant's resistance to drought makes it an effective tool in combating soil erosion.

Now let’s explore Peridot, the beautiful birthstone for the month of August. Peridot is renowned as the stone of compassion. Believed to hold remarkable properties, peridot is said to promote good health, restful sleep, and harmonious relationships by balancing emotions and calming the mind. Its friendly, bright green hue also serves as a source of inspiration for eloquence and creativity, bringing delight and cheerfulness to its wearer. Moreover, peridot is believed to attract love and pacify anger, offering a sense of renewal to all aspects of life.
Throughout the ages, peridot's metaphysical powers have been the subject of much fascination and writing. According to legend, when set in gold, the gem reaches its full potential as a talisman, possessing the ability to dispel terrors of the night, including fearsome visions and nightmares. This attribute makes it a symbol of protection and reassurance, enhancing a sense of security and tranquility for the one who possesses it.
Peridot is not only a stunning gemstone but also a provider of positive energies, promoting compassion, creativity, and emotional balance.
The captivating shade of green in peridot gemstones are intricately linked to the proportion of iron content within the stone. Interestingly, the deeper the green hue, the smaller the amount of iron present in the gem.

Peridot is celebrated as a gemstone with exceptional abilities in emotional healing, particularly for resolving heart-related issues. This crystal possesses the remarkable power to dispel feelings of self-blame, offering relief from such burdensome emotions. Additionally, its gentle yet potent energy enables individuals to overcome rage, resentment, frustration, and irritability, fostering a sense of tranquility and peace.
Among its many virtues, peridot stands out as one of the most potent stones for transforming negative thoughts into positive ones, such as gratitude, compassion, and love. For those grappling with difficulties in letting go of past betrayals, peridot proves to be a valuable ally, providing much-needed support and healing. Wearing this gemstone is highly beneficial as it facilitates learning from past mistakes and promotes personal growth.
Both the crystal peridot and the herb yarrow have unique properties and energetic benefits that can be combined to enhance various aspects of our lives. Here are some ways you can utilize the combined benefits of peridot and yarrow:
Meditation and Spiritual Practices: Find a quiet space where you can meditate. Hold a peridot crystal in your hand or place it in front of you, and burn dried yarrow leaves as incense. The combination of the crystal's calming energy and yarrow's reputed ability to heighten psychic abilities could help facilitate a deeper meditative state or enhance your spiritual connection.
Protection and Grounding: Carry a small peridot crystal with you, and create a sachet with dried yarrow flowers to keep in your pocket or wear around your neck. Peridot is associated with protection and healing, while yarrow is thought to have grounding properties. Together, they might help shield you from negative energy and keep you anchored during stressful times.
Creativity and Inspiration: If you're an artist or writer seeking inspiration, consider creating an altar or sacred space in your creative area. Place a peridot crystal and a bundle of dried yarrow on the altar. Some believe that peridot can stimulate creativity and yarrow can boost intuitive insights, potentially combining to enhance your artistic flow and ideas.
Physical Healing: Peridot is believed to have healing properties, and yarrow has a long history of use in traditional medicine for various ailments. While it's essential to consult with medical professionals for serious health concerns, you can use the combination of peridot and yarrow as a focal point for positive intentions and as a complementary aid to your treatments.
Sleep and Dream Enhancement: Some people find that placing a peridot crystal under their pillow or creating a dream pouch with dried yarrow flowers could lead to more vivid dreams and enhanced dream recall. This combination might encourage a more restful sleep and potentially open the door to insightful dreams.
Positive Energy Amplification: Both peridot and yarrow are associated with positive energy. Placing a peridot crystal on a bed of dried yarrow leaves in a decorative bowl or on your windowsill could create a space that radiates positive energy, helping to uplift your mood and environment.
